DECEMBER 2008: Christmas Blog.
Well it’s been a long time since I lasted posted a note from America so I thought I would update you on what’s happening the other side of the world in a little city called - New York!!! I’m currently on a break from school and I’m proud to say that I have just received my final grades for this term which included A’s and B’s!! It’s been a lot of hard work and you may be sensing a smile from me as I write this but the past month has been a roller coaster of emotions! Working on traumatic pieces... then in the next hour we have to perform the best day of our life ever! It can get a bit confusing as we work on different characters, but it’s definitely worth it! I’ve met some wonderful people at my school and I have some amazing teachers. I’ve learnt an incredible amount and I feel as though I have grown a tremendous amount as a person as well as on a professional level. I’ve also grown in the domestic circles of life… I can cook (just about),wash and clean - Wow! The wonders of New York and what it has to offer!! I’m also an expert at the subway in the city now! It took 4 months but I’m no longer getting lost!
When I’m not studying I’m lucky enough to experience the rest of the city. I’ve been to the theatre a number of times(my latest visit included a Christmas spectacular performed by the Rockettes - a dance group that was originally established in the 1940’s). They were amazing! Everything they did was in unison to the other 40 girls on stage - high kicks, splits & different acrobatic tricks! There was even ice skating on stage and a 3D Santa! It definitely put me in the Christmas spirit! I also checked out a number of Christmas markets they have in Manhattan selling a number of magical gifts! I’ve been going to the cinema on a regular basis as I thought it was only sensible while I’m at film school! And then the rest of my time is spent exploring this amazing city!
We had snow for the first time last Tuesday and it looked so spectacular! It was like something out of a movie, not like the snow in England - all slushy and then instantly turning to rain!.
I watched my first American Football game yesterday. The Packers against the Bears. It was definitely interesting! It seemed to me as though it was very much like rugby apart from they were dressed in about a metre of padding! The atmosphere was fun though as I sat in a bar with a group of friends. It made me miss a proper English game of football though…
So in conclusion to this detailed version of my day to day activities I’m sure your thinking I thought you were supposed to be studying out there? Well I am, I just thought you might get a bit bored hearing about all of the acting methods we’re researching, or my new thoughts on what makes acting good or bad? It gets a bit tedious hearing about it all the time so I thought I’d fill you in on the city instead! If you want me to check anything out while I’m out here just send me an email through the website and I’ll do my best to get you the answer from the other side of the pond!
Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
Luce
